For the love of China and mandatory first day post
I have to see a woman about China soon. In the mean time, as you might have heard I Am Legend is banned from China.
Now, between the “plot spoiler” possible media hype, and the fact that they put a SURPRIZ twist ending on everything would be enough reason to ban it from my Living Room, and burn my friend’s copy with Literal Matches. However, in the article it’s stated that China wants to do this to increase the amount of sales for domestic flicks. By banning art that appeals to people, they believe people will buy shittier art.
Now, essentially, that’s the idea. What upper echelons assum, though, is that cultural creativity, arts, and science is some fixed thing. That a certain amount of art happens per year, that a certain range of good books will crop up like clockwork. That people will just mull on to the next-looks-just-like-but-content-approved load.
Well, people can live without art. That’s why mankind blows. We can live without the best parts of us, and just the worst scum. People won’t move on along. Theoretically it works with one movie. Theoretically you take out the biggest competitor, and you win. But maybe that’s the reason people cropped to go in the first place. Maybe because they had the idea that something had the opportunity to be exciting and interesting, or have at least enough explosions and sex to make it from intro to credits.
The point is, as a tactic, this doesn’t work. Universally, higher governments assume that art will just happen. That it’s irrepressible human nature. Well, plants occur naturally too, but in a barren environment, only the nastiest, unsophisticated, and hardiest plants will survive. When people think plant, many think flower. Many do not think of a carnivorous water-storing vine who emits pheromones akin to rotting flesh, and consumes protein from the drawn maggots.
People have grown out of touch with art, assuming it will just happen, or that it’s unstoppable. But it’s also true that people without the capabilities to think within a grander design, (President), will appreciate and foster the development of the arts like a scorpion will appreciate and foster the belly of a cat.
I heard a comparison today to art as the mediator between the edge where science is (Quantum Physics), and the population. Techinically, we don’t teach the kids about the new (aka near century old) “map of le atom”. Electron clouds and shit. And a great notion was said when the author said that the theory of relativity had been known for quite a while, but the average person cannot appreciate it’s implications, even in the world around them. When arts are used as an act of pacification instead of fostering imaginary growth, or are used to guide growth, we notice an interesting thing. Art doesn’t change that form. It stops. People grow immune.
Simply because you cannot have “mock art”. The populations short attention span in this case turns in our favor. People understand quickly and boredly what’s artistic propaganda, what’s crap. Because no one -cares- to fight against it, Those-In-Charge assume their plan must be working brilliantly. This is their main tactic. No, the story is no one cares.
Here, look, a baby born with a brain outside of it’s head</a>. Unless you’re me, you won’t watch this shit more than twice. You’ve seen it. Or seen something like it. Art needs to grow, like a wild vine, and our Leaders simply don’t have the mental capacity to chart a mock course. Which is why it’s dumbed down, and why it’s simple and ineffective and the same and see-through.
You think they “want to reach the average citizen”? They do, by default. The truth is, current methods are ineffective because they are trying to mimic something they can’t comprehend. Why NOT make bullshit, see-through, fast evolving propaganda? That appeals to BOTH the ordinary AND extraordinary citizen?
Because that is fucking hard.
On top of that, it will cause their end, the more they push. Truely. For one, if we are to be seeded as soldiers and pawns in the interests of others, better not give men like this a gun. They can only make us stupid for so long.
I’m tired. Fuck.

THis thing is all over the palce, Niko. Why would you be so up in arms about anybody blocking a giant mega movie from being shown anywhere. I am sure this drone pice of shit movie that is EXACTLY like every other drone billion dollar production put out by hollywood would have no effect on anybody in China artwize, let alone the rest of the world. So Why are you up in arms over their government banning a movie? At Least China just comes out and says what it is going to do, unlike our sneaky little facist state that just pumps us full of these pice of crap movies year in and year out til we start to defend them when somebody else finally tries to put a stop to them. and why so cynical? art is just art. sadly, most people do not like nor want to like the cutting edge of anything. maybe thats why its called that. cuts for most, are to be avoided. and face it we are a social animal, and the average herd animal tends to want to be in the middle of the herd. we are pretty conservative by nature and the lucky few of us that have been able to chip just a little bit of that conservative patina off and let ourselves stray from the pack have got to realize that not only is it more possible to be eaten by the wolves, we are also more likely to be shunned by the pack. our art can reflect this beautifully. make something dull and normal and it will be gobbled up by the masses and hardly be noticed, make a baby with its brain on the outside of is body with forks in its eyes and you will be rejected, but make something that is beautiful or interesting enough in its own way and you might guide some of the pack in your direction. none of it is bad or good though, it is all just art. and people do make art and people will make art, and governments will oddly try to control that and so will corporations, but art will continue, the mundane, the grotesque and everything in between. damn, Niko, your rant made me rant as if I was foaming at the fingertips. for that I am sorry.
